The Predict Cup, by the Numbers

With the Predict Cup wrapping up in glorious fashion on Sunday, we wanted to thank all new and existing predictors for joining in on the activity.

In a little over a month, we distributed $2,000,000 in prizes to the thousands of you that correctly called the markets across 100+ high-stakes matches.

Let’s break down the figures.

Spain: A Clear Favorite

Spain has only won once before (in 2010). 

In spite of that, the team was the top pick of predictors — followed by three-time winners Argentina (1978, 1986, 2022) and two-time winners France (1998, 2018). 

Many Spanish fans were set in their convictions from the start: 24,000+ of them selected Spain in the group stage, with the total number of fans surpassing 199,000 by the time the Final came around.

A Defining Event for Predict

The Predict Cup has certainly been our biggest promotion yet. 

~187,000 players took part in the competition (while a total of 217k held shares on WC-related markets).

Collectively, participants achieved ~$885m in volume across 5,000+ Predict Cup markets. With Predict’s total volume at ~$5.15b, this one six-week period accounts for ~17% of it.

The Snowball Effect

On day one of the tournament, we saw ~87,000 orders matched. During the Final, we saw 6.5x that (500,000+).

Things really heated up during the knockout rounds, where daily matches averaged 500,000 (and, indeed, surpassing the Final on a handful of occasions).
