What Is a Predict Smart Wallet?

Last updated: September 1, 2026

The TL;DR:

A Predict Smart Wallet is the on-chain account automatically created for you when you sign up to Predict. Thanks to account abstraction, the whole process is much easier that the usual crypto setup – there are no seed phrases and no gas costs. But fear not: you retain full control at all times.

No Setup Required

Predict Smart Wallets are what identify you on Predict and hold your positions. Yours is created the moment you sign up via email, Google, X, or an external wallet.

Needless to say, this differs greatly from a traditional crypto wallet: with something like MetaMask, you generate your seed phrase, which creates a private key that you use to sign every transaction yourself. A Predict Smart Wallet skips that setup. You sign up the way you'd sign up for most apps, and the wallet exists in the background from that point on.

Under the hood, it's a smart contract account (versus a simple cryptographic key-pair). On the user-friendliness side, it takes the edge: there’s no risk of losing your seed phrase, no paying for gas fees, and no manually approving transactions.

How Does It Work?

When you sign up, Predict creates two things behind the scenes:

An embedded wallet.

This is a lightweight wallet Predict's auth provider manages on your behalf. It doesn’t have any control over your funds – it only exists to sign transactions.

Your Predict Smart Wallet.

This is the actual on-chain account, built using account abstraction (the ERC-4337 standard). It's the address that holds your shares, and the one shown on your profile.

The embedded wallet acts as the signer for the Smart Wallet, but not every action goes through it the same way. Placing a prediction itself is an off-chain signed order sent to Predict's order book. Actions that do need to happen on-chain, like approving tokens the first time, depositing, withdrawing, or converting shares, go through your Smart Wallet as UserOperations instead. Again, this is all abstracted: to you, it looks like a simple button tap.

Why Trades Don't Cost Gas

On most blockchains, every action costs a small network fee paid in the chain's native token.

Account abstraction removes that step for the on-chain side of using Predict. Because a Predict Smart Wallet is a smart contract account rather than a plain key-pair, it can accept sponsored transactions, meaning Predict covers the network fee for things like approvals, deposits, withdrawals, and converting shares. You don't need BNB sitting in your wallet to do any of that, and you won't see a wallet approval popup interrupting the flow, either.

The one exception is accounts set up for API or bot trading, which can switch their primary address to an external wallet and pay their own gas like any regular crypto wallet would. For everyone else, sponsorship is enforced by default.

None of this changes what a trade costs you in trading fees. It only removes the separate, unrelated cost of using the blockchain itself.

Who Actually Controls The Wallet?

A Predict Smart Wallet is still yours. Predict doesn't hold custody of your funds the way an exchange account would. Your embedded wallet's signing key is what authorizes every action on your Smart Wallet (if you've turned on multi-factor authentication, that key also needs your second factor before it can sign), and Predict's account settings let you export that key if you want a copy outside the app.

The tradeoff is convenience versus manual key management. A traditional wallet puts the seed phrase entirely in your hands from day one, with no recovery path if you lose it. A Predict Smart Wallet handles that by default through your login method, while still giving you the option to take direct control if you want it.

Smart Wallet vs. Connecting Your Own Wallet

You can also link an external wallet, such as MetaMask or another WalletConnect-compatible wallet, from your account settings. For most users, this doesn't replace the Smart Wallet as your trading account. It's there for specific purposes, e.g., linking a separate wallet for yield management.

Switching your primary trading address to an external wallet entirely is reserved for accounts set up for API or bot trading. Everyone else keeps trading through the Smart Wallet created on signup, whether or not they've also linked an external wallet for other purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to already have a crypto wallet to use Predict?

No. Signing up with email, Google, or Twitter creates a Predict Smart Wallet for you automatically. Connecting your own wallet is optional, not required.

Can I export the private key for my Predict Smart Wallet?

Yes. Your embedded wallet's key, which signs for your Smart Wallet, can be exported from your account settings if you want a copy outside the app.

Is a Predict Smart Wallet custodial?

No. Predict doesn't hold your funds on your behalf the way an exchange account does. Your Smart Wallet is controlled by your own signing key, managed through your login method by default.

Why don't I pay gas fees when I trade on Predict?

Because your Predict Smart Wallet is a smart contract account, it can accept sponsored transactions. Predict covers the underlying network fee, so you don't need a separate token just to place a prediction.

What happens if I lose access to my email or social login?

Your login method is how you access your embedded wallet day to day, so keeping it secure matters. Exporting your key ahead of time gives you a way back in that doesn't depend on any single login method.

Smart Wallet Glossary

Account Abstraction
The smart contract wallet standard (ERC-4337) that makes sponsored, gasless transactions possible.
