What Is Niu Lai ($牛来)? The BNB Chain Memecoin, Explained

Niu Lai (牛来, "Here Comes the Cow") is an 86-minute Chinese animated film that dropped in August 2026.

While titles like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day boasted cast and crew in the thousands, Niu Lai had just two: mother and son Sun Lifang and Xin Yumeng. The film was developed over five years on secondhand equipment, using SketchUp — yes, the architectural modeling software.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it initially flopped, grossing only ~$1,000 in ticket sales over the first nine days. This could have spelled the end for Niu Lai, until social media got ahold of it. The ensuing virality (mostly mockery of its rough animation style) then catapulted it into box office stardom: at the time of this writing, it has grossed over $4m, landing it among the top 10 highest-grossing Chinese animated films of 2026.

Naturally, nothing goes viral without someone making a memecoin out of it. Why should this be any different?

In mid-August 2026, a BEP-20 token with ticker $牛来 hit the BNB Chain, jumping on the film's momentum. In true memecoin fashion, it has no roadmap, no team, nor even a website. It appears to be running the usual play: capitalizing on attention.

And, boy, did it capitalize. Within a week, $牛来 had hit a market capitalization of over $65m, albeit with some serious ups-and-downs along the way. Roughly half of its volume originates from BNB-based DEX PancakeSwap.
